Using a pike pole to pull sheets of veneer

An employee was using a pike pole to pull sheets of veneer that did not fully offload towards the backboard of the 4 dryer. The employee was using both hands on the pike while pulling when a piece of veneer broke off causing the pike pole to come loose smashing the employee 's right pinky finger between the backboard and the end of the pike pole. The employee 's finger began to swell immediately and had a small laceration to the end of it. The employee was taken to the local hospital for evaluation. The employee suffered a fracture to the tip of her pinky finger.
