Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) The hazard of objects falling and crushing the employee(s). Location: Second floor, Volvo service area. Equipment: Benwil Inc. auto lift, model tP-7, serial number 1130. Condition: The safety mechanism on the horizontal arms was incompleteor missing, allowing the arms to swing and drop their loadwhen in use. Abatement Note: Among other possible methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to replace or repair the portion of the safety mechanism that is missing.
