Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) The hazard of being crushed, in that, on or about March 2, 1990 and at times prior to, employees were exposed to unexpected descent or collapse of the six (6) automotive lifts along the east side of the Automotive Repair Shop. (b) The hazard of being crushed, in that, on or about March 2, 1990 and at times prior to, employees were exposed to serious injury from unexpected descent or collapse of the four (4) automotive lifts along the west side of the Automo- tive Service Department. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is installation and maintenance of a safety lock or latch.
