Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees:
a) In that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire or explosion on
or about 5/11/87 at 3090 - 54th Avenue South, St. Petersburg, Florida
when the fuel filter was being replaced during routine maintenance in
a gasoline dispenser unit using an improper procedure.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to follow the manufacturer of the dispenser and/
or the service station equipment contractor's procedure for removing and
replacing motor fuel pump/dispenser filters.

or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) The hazard of fire or explosion on or about 5/11/87 at 3090 - 54th
Avenue South, St. Petersburg, Florida, when an accidental gasoline
spill occurred and the employees were not properly trained to
immediately handle this emergency condition.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to include in employee training that, at the
first sign of an accidental spill, the emergency shut-off switch will be
immediately activated. This action will cut off all electrical power to
the gasoline dispensing island. Such action would constitute greater
conformity with the requirements in the Automotive and Marine Service
Station Code, NFPA No. 30A-1984.
