Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:
a) The hazard of being struck by falling trusses at building No. 1
located at 881 Riverside Dr. in Coral Springs, Florida 33065, in that
adequate and continuous lateral bracing and proper diagonal bracing
was not used to prevent toppling and dominoing of erected trusses.
Bracing and through cords laterally and cross bracing was not
provided to ensure that trusses were secure in a straight and plumb
position on or about November 20, 1986.
Among other methods on a feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard would be to ensure that the Truss Plate Institute's
BWI-76 Bracing Wood Trusses Commentary and Recommendations are carried
out according to procedures as the job progresses.
