Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to finger ampuations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop a lock-out procedure: Conveyor Room Can Conveyor Belt - The employer did not ensure that employees were protected from finger amputations in that employees were required to clean off the can conveyor system when employees at a distant location could have energized the hard plastic conveyor belt.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recongized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were not trained on the hazards posed by handling bags of recyclable materialwhich included used hypodermic needles and condoms, broken glass, maggots and cockroaches which could have caused cuts and infections: Middle Room and Can Sorting Area - The employer did not ensure that employees were trained on the hazards associated with handling recyclable materials which included used hypodermic needles and condoms, broken glass, maggots and cockroaches which could have resulted in cuts, infection and death.
