Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of getting caught in the drive chain that operates the conveyor: (a) On or about 06/11/01 an employee suffered a serious injury when clothing the employee was wearing got caught in the drive chain on the HBC-110 Horn de-boning conveyor. Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard would be to install emergency stop buttons, pull cords, limit switches, or similar emergency stopping devices as prescribed by ANSI B20.1-2000, Section 5.11.2 Paragraph (c). In addition, personnel working on or near a conveyor shall be trained in the location and operation of these emergency stopping devices as prescribed by ANSI B20.1-2000, Section 5.12 Paragraph (e).graph

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards created by in-running nip points, rotating, and moving parts on conveyance systems: (a) In the boning department for employees working at or near the HBC-110 Horn de- boning conveyor and not provided formal training in the recognition and avoidance of the hazards created by in-running nip points, rotating, and moving parts. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to ensure all current and future employees working in the boning department are provided formal training in hazard recognition related to working at or near conveyance systems such as the HBC-110 horn de-boning conveyor. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement Certification Letter").tion
