Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of the spreader bar breaking and dropping the load causing broken bones and crushing injuries: (a)Bleyer Industies, Incorporated - The two (2) spreader bars, used at the load end of the number one (1) and two (2) rewind machines, were homemade and their capacity was unknown. These spreader bars were twisted and bent. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REPAIR, RATE THE SPREADER BARS AND LABEL THEM AS TO THEIR CAPACITY. VERIFICATION REQUIREDTION
