Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm including severe burns, to employees in that employees were exposed to dust explosion, deflagration, or other fire hazards from dust collectors being located inside a building: (a)There was a filter 1 cyclotron enclosure-less dust collector system Model C30-10- 1D serial #4-18-10 operating in the boxing line area inside the main production building within 20 feet of employees at work stations used to collect wood dust from saws. No fire suppression or spark arresting equipment was available for the unit or ductwork for the exhaust. (b)There was a "Dust Kop" enclosure-less dust collector system Model DB2 Serial #4117 operating in the boxing line area inside the main production building within 20 feet of employees at work stations used to collect wood dust from saws. No fire suppression or spark arresting equipment was available for the unit or ductwork for the exhaust. (c)There was a "AGET" enclosure-less dust collector system Model FT40-SP Serial 101378 operating in the boxing line area inside the main production building within 20 feet of employees at work stations used to collect wood dust from saws. No fire suppression or spark arresting equipment was available for the unit or ductwork for the exhaust. (d)There was a "Dust Kop" enclosure-less dust collector system Model 30SN90 D2 Serial #8448 operating in the boxing line area inside the main production building within 20 feet of employees at work stations used to collect wood dust from saws. No fire suppression or spark arresting equipment was available for the unit or ductwork for the exhaust. AMONG OTHER METHODS, A FEASIBLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO RELOCATE THE DUST COLLECTION SYSTEMS OUTSIDE THE BUILDING OR IMPLEMENT THE PROTECTIVE MEASURES SET FORTH IN THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION STANDARD FOR THE PREVENTION OF FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS IN WOODWORKING FACILITIES. NFPA 664 (2007 EDITION), SPECIFICALLY SECTION 8.2.2.5.1.4 WHICH ADDRESS DUST COLLECTORS. Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
