Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that un trained
employees were exposed to amputation hazards associated with using the
Makita compound saw.
In that on or about May 11, 2005, employees were using the makita saw to
rip (length wise) the
wood 1"x4", 24 inch long on a saw which is designed for cross cutting
only. Among others a
feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to train employees by
using Makitas
instruction manual and the ANSI 01.1-1992, Standards for Woodworking
Safety Requirements.
addressing the proper use and limitations of saws and to provide the
appropriate saw for the
task.
Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required.
Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be
submitted
within ten (10)
calendar days after the abatement date.ment
