Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck and/or crushed by descending autmotive lift: a) In that, on or about July 17, 1990, the Gilbarco Lift #A-1AA, was not equipped with an automatic safety locking device. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install an automatic mechanical device to hold the lift in the fully extended position (safety locking device) as recommended in American National Standard B 153.1-1981 Paragraph 3.1.10 and 3.2.1.
