Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were
free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to
the hazard of an air filtration machine being stacked on top of another
machine near the top of a stairway without being adequately secured to
prevent it from falling down and striking employees:
a) Jobsite: Two "Aero-Clean 2000" air filtration machines were stacked
on top of one another near the top of a stairway and were not
adequately secured to prevent them from falling.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to obtain amd utilize "stacking rings" which are
manufactured specifically for use when stacking these machines. These
stacking rings interlock and secure the two machines so they will not
fall.
