Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to:
Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico:
El patrono no
proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten
causando o que
puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados
estaban expuestos
a:
a) At the facilities of the Family Department - Minor Protection Unit in
Arecibo, was observed
that the employees were using writting desks in bad conditions. The drawer
did not has handle
to close it and other did not close properly. Also, in the work station
were chairs which were
in bad conditions. The tapestry was damage and the base was unbalanced.
One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others to correct the
hazards can be:
1) Identify the writting desk damaged parts and contact a supplier company
and buy them or buy
new writting desks.
2) Buy adecuate chairs that offer a comfortable position for work in a
normal workday.  An
adecuate chair is one that provide to the employee support to the back,
arms and the popliteal
height is the correct. The popliteal height is the height from the floor
to the point at the crease
behind the knee. For that are recomended chairs that fulfill with
ergonomic factors.
a) En las facilidades del Departamento de la Familia - Unidad de
Proteccion de Menores en
Arecibo se observo que los empleados estaban utilizando escritorios en
malas condiciones. Las
gavetas no tenian manecillas para cerrarlos y otras no cerraban. Tambien,
dentro de su estacion
de trabajo habia sillas las cuales estaban en malas condiciones. Estas
tenian la tapiceria rota y
la base desbalanceada.
Un metodo viable y aceptable, entre otros metodos que se puede utilizar
para corregir los riesgos
existentes es:
1) Identificar las partes de los escritorios que estan danadas y contactar
una compania suplidora
para comprarlas para la reparacion de los mismos o comprar escritorios
nuevos.
2) Comprar sillas adecuadas, que ofrezcan una posicion comoda para
realizar labores durante
una jornada completa de trabajo. Una silla apropiada es una que provea al
empleado soporte en
la espalda y brazos y la altura del area popliteal sea la correcta. La
altura popliteal es la altura
que hay entre el piso y la parte posterior de la rodilla. Para esto se
recomiendan sillas que
cumplan con factores ergonomicos.
