Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
a)  Main dismantling bay:  The automatic mechanical safety devices of the
ROTARY
Automotive Lift Model SPOA7, Serial Number ABA94B1413, 7000 pound
capacity, were not
activating, creating a crushing hazard due to the collapse of the vehicle
support arms of the lift
as the weight shifts with the removal of parts from the automobile.
Observed on or about
07/13/98.
ABATEMENT VERIFICATION:  In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1):
Abatement
Verification is required within 10 calendar days from the final abatement
date on this
citation.  The employer must submit documentation such as photographs,
invoices, etc., as
to the abatement of each citation to the Area Director at the address
indicated.
