Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to:a fall from an aerial lift basket without the benefit of wearing a body belt with lanyard attached to the boom or basket. (a) Stony Brook Athletic Stadium,employee was operating and raising a Snorkel Lift,model Z60/34 serial # 468-60-0015 to a height of 30 feet,without the use of body belt and lanyard. On or about 11/03/00. Abatement Notes: Among other methods,one feasible method to reduce the hazard is to: 1. Follow ANSI/SIA A92.5-1992 Boom supported elevating work platforms,section 8.8 states"Ensure all personnel in the platform are wearing fall protection devices and other safety gear as required at all times" and 2 Train the employees in the proper procedures while operating aerial lifts,such as and not limited to,the wearing of a safety belt with lanyard. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED AS OUTLINED IN PART 29 CFR 1903.19
