Title 21 V.S.A. Chapter 3, Subchapter 5, Section 223 (a), Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing, or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to: Location: East end of the service bay area. Violation: The automatically engaging lift locks of the Rotary, two post, air/hydraulic, automotive type, truck lift, were found to be in-operable, due to a substantial buildup of grease, oil, dirt and debris, in the slots that the locks operated in. Among other feasible methods the employer could employ to correct this hazard... Establish a formal inspection and service procedure to insure the locks would be checked on a regular basis and their proper operation verified.
