Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck-by hazard: a.Employees were exposed to a struck-by hazard due to a non-functional latch/keeper on the load hook for an Overhead Bridge Crane with a Peerless Electric Hoist, five (5) ton, Model Number BBR-764, Serial Number 50147 in the first (1st) large (Inventory & Staging for Shipment) room. b.Employees were exposed to a struck-by hazard due to not providing a latch/keeper on each of the two (2) load hooks for a Demag, Overhead Crane, five (5) ton, Model Number BBR-763, Serial Number 85843 in the second (2nd) large (Assembly/Disassembly) room. Among other methods, one (1) feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure the installation of functional latch/keepers on the load hooks as required by American National Standard Institute (ANSI) B30.16 - 1973.
