Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to struck-by/caught-in hazards:
On or about November 28, 2000, employees working in automotive service
area were exposed
to struck-by/caught-in hazards from a Globe hydraulic lift in service bay
#1, the hydraulic lift
was missing the lift mechanical control locking device that prevents the
lift from inadvertantly
lowering when lift is being raised, or in case of a lift failure.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard would be to
have a qualified mechanical lift service engineer install a mechanical
control locking device and
have the lift load tested that is reccommended by ANSI B153.1-1990,Chapter
4.1.11
29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the
above violation is
complete.
