Initial $525.00 · Current $263.00 Reduced
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to the hazard of eye and skin injury due to the presence of
hazardous chemicals:
a) Chimill Corporation, Denver, CO: Located on the south wall inside the
chemical storage and mixing area, the employer did not ensure that the
emergency shower was suitable for use in that the actuator was installed
backwards requiring a pushing motion upwards to activate.
b) Located on the south wall inside the chemical storage and mixing area,
the
employer did not ensure that a highly visible sign indicated an emergency
shower
station.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is
to ensure that emergency showers are assembled in accordance with
manufacturers
instructions
as indicated in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1-1990
section 4.6.3.
Specifically the emergency actuator must operate by "pulling".
Additionally the employer must
ensure that each emergency shower location be identified with a highly
visible sign.
Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see
enclosed "Sample
Abatement Certification Letter").tion
