Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to injuries and/or death from falls: Production Area: Employee(s) used the top rung of a six foot portable ladder as a step to climb up and down the framework of a mechanical power press to perform repair and maintenance work on the press. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this method to correct this hazard is to provide the following: a.Provide larger ladder and/or other safe means of access. b.Instruct and train employees in the safe methods of access before assigning them to repair equipment. Such instruction and training shall include procedures provided by the manufacturer. c.Monitor the employees operations and methods of accessing work areas while repairing equipment, including adherence to safe practices. NO DOCUMENTATION NOR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
