Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of crushing from the moving robot: a) The barrier guard on the robotics machinery was removed and not replaced exposing a 3 foot 1 and 1/2 inch opening on the front of machine # 8 facing an aisle-way located on the east wall in the robotics department. One means of abatement, among others, would be to comply with American National Standards Institute, ANSI, R15.06-1999, by replacing the guard protecting the exposed opening at the front of the robotic machinery. Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck- by hazards and crushing injuries in the event of a hoist failure: Employees in the vicinity of the maintenance manager's office who used the Lodestar hoist there were exposed to the potential of loads falling from the hoist and crushing injuries as: (a) The capacity load ratings were not marked on the hoist; (b)Frequent and periodic inspections were not conducted on the Lodestar hoist. One method to abate this item, among others, would be to mark the hoist capacity on the hoist or load block and to conduct the inspections as required by the industry consensus standard issued by the American National Standard Institute, ANSI, B30.16-1973, para. 16-1.1.1.1 and para. 16-1.2.1. Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
