Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees, in that
employees were exposed to injury when transferring tigers for cage
cleaning operations:
1) On or about June 29, 2003, and at times prior an employee was exposed
to serious injury
while having direct contact with two tigers. To clean the cage an employee
had to enter the
main cage then direct the tigers into a holding cage.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazardous
condition would be to install a holding area for the tigers that could be
opened and closed
from outside of the cage, thus eliminating the need for direct contact.
