Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to a hazard of contacting moving parts of a wood chipper.
a)Job Site: Adjacent to Transit District 12 Police Station: The hazard of
death or
accidental amputation existed when untrained employees were operating a
wood
chipper, on or about 09/14/05.
Among feasible means of abatement one way is to provide employees with the
safety training
that is included in the wood chipper operations manual and the ANSI Z
133.1-2000 for
Arboricultural Operations-Pruning, Repairing, Maintaining, and Removing
Trees, and Cutting
Brush-Safety Requirements Section 9.6 Brush Removal and Chipping.
NOTE: The employer is required to submit abatement certification for this
item
in
accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
