Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
to the hazard of being
crushed/struck by the collapsing roof rafters due to inadequate bracing
and support:
a. 1573 Sheriden Road, Coopersburg, PA - The employer/framer failed to
provide adequate bracing
and support for the roof during construction resulting in the collapse of
the roof on or about April 14,
2005.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct the hazard is too extend the
interior second floor wall under the ridge in the vaulted ceiling area to
the roof or provide the properly sized
beam with adequate support. In addition the exterior wall in the front
needs to be spliced together to brace the
wall.
Abatement certification and documentation required within 10 days after

shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of
abatement, and states employees and
their representatives were informed of this abatement. Abatement
documentation shall include documents
demonstrating that abatement is complete, such as evidence of the purchase
or repair of equipment,
photographic or video evidence of abatement or other written records.
