Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to struck by hazards of plastic pipe shattering due to excessive
pressure:
(a)In the warehouse, employees, such as the dock attendant and the drivers
were
exposed to the hazard of laceration due to the use of the CPVC plastic
pipe that
was employed to transport compressed air to the two furnaces.  The plastic
pipe
can rupture and expose employees to shards of plastic pipe.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this
hazard include,
but are not limited to the following:
1.Replace the CPVC plastic pipe with pipe of suitable material designed for
carrying compressed air, or,
2.Enclose the plastic pipe in a suitable conduit or casing.
Certification, with date and method of abatement required.
Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be
submitted
within ten (10)
calendar days after the abatement date.ment
