North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck by hazard: a)plating department - where the employees were allowed to work in close proximity to an overheard underhung crane equipped with a below-the-hook balanced c-hook lifting device that was used to lift coils up to 5000 pound without a safety retainer installed on the hook. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among other, to correct this hazard is to install a safety retainer or replace the hook.
