Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by the hydraulic lift while trying to engage the locking pin:: a)Shop Area, locking pin for the hydraulic lift was not working properly thereby exposing employees to a struck by hazard in the event the lift would have a sudden drop while employees were underneath. The locking pin had to be manually engaged when it did not engage automatically. One method of abatement to correct the apparent hazard is to service the lift as required by ANSI B153.1 - 1974, Section 6, Maintenance, Use and Inspection. DISCLAIMER: a) The employer is not limited to the abatement methods suggested by OSHA. b) The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method. ***THIS ITEM REQUIRES A WRITTEN CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT***
