Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which is free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards: (a)On or about February 14, 2008, employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards at Premium Standard Farms (Ruckman) 27, barn 1, from the use of flexible extension cords as a permanent power source for heat lamps. An acceptable means of abatement would be to provide permanent wiring in lieu of using extension cords in accordance with NFPA 70-E, 2000 edition, Section 3-7.3. Abatement certification is required for this item (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which is free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards: (a)On or about February 14, 2008, in that employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards at Premium Standard Farms (Ruckman) barn 12-3, when conductors energized to 220 volts AC to a spring auger feed motor were not contained by a complete enclosed junction box. The box cover was missing. An acceptable means of abatement would be to guard live part of electric equipment operating at 50 volts or more by approved enclosures in accordance with NFPA 70-E, 2000 edition, Section 1-8.2.1.
