ySection 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to: electrical shock hazards:
(a)In that on are around  February 19, 2008, employees were exposed to the
hazard
of electrical shock from exposed electrical conductors 110 volts AC, or
greater,
at Premium Standard Farms (Scott Colby 3) breeding B-1.  A power cable with
exposed bare conductors was located approximately 5 feet, six inches above
floor
level at the entrance of breeding B-1; and
(b)In that on are around February 19, 2008, employees were exposed to
electrical
shock hazards at Premium Standard Farms (Scott Colby 3), east side of the
west
incinerator exposed live parts protruding from the incinerator control box
which
could not be closed.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this
hazard is to guard live parts of electric equipment operating at 50 volts
or more by
approved enclosures in accordance with NFPA 70-E, 2000 edition, Section
1-8.2.1.
Abatement certification is required for this violation (using the
CERTIFICATION OF
CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating
that abatement is complete must be included with your certification.  This
documentation
may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of
the equipment,
photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.

220 volt ac power cable to the food spring auger motor was not protected
from
damage where it entered the motor housing.
An acceptable means of abatement would be to provide fittings in openings
to protect
conductors from abrasion in accordance with NFPA 70-E, 2000 edition,
Section 3-2.1.
Abatement certification is required for this violation (using the
CERTIFICATION OF
CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating
that abatement is complete must be included with your certification.  This
documentation

were exposed to sharp edges:
(a)On or about February 19, 2008, employees were exposed to the hazard of
moving
fan blades at Premium Standard Farms, (Scott Colby 3) Farrowing Room 4.
Employees were exposed to moving unguarded fan blades which could cause
serious harm or death.  The exhaust fan was not properly guarded to keep
employees from coming into contact with unguarded fan blades.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement methods to
correct this
hazard is to follow the guarding specifications in CFR 1910.212(a)(5) when
fan blades
are exposed.
Abatement certification is required for this violation (using the
CERTIFICATION OF
CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating
that abatement is complete must be included with your certification.  This
documentation
may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of
the equipment,

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not

were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that, employees
were exposed to electrical shock hazards:
(a)On or about February 19, 2008, employees were exposed to electrical
shock
hazards from an improperly spliced power cable energized to 110 volts ac
providing power to a heat lamp.  The splice was not equivalent to the
original
conductor insulation.
An acceptable means of abatement would be to use splicing devices
identified for the use
or by brazing, welding, or soldering with a fusible metal or alloy.
Soldered splices shall
first be spliced or joined so as to be mechanically and electrically
secure without solder
and then soldered.  All splices and joints and the free ends of conductors
shall be covered
with an insulation equivalent to that of the conductors or with an
insulating device in
accordance with NFPA 70-E, 2000 edition, Section 1-4.2.
Abatement certification is required for this violation (using the
CERTIFICATION OF
CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition , documentation demonstrating
that abatement is complete must be included with your certification.  This
