positive stop locks and "Jerky" movement of the lift cylinder; on or about 02/25/08. d) Worksite, Southside, approximate middle of the shop, Bay #7, Semi Hydraulic, Globe Lift - Employees operated an automobile lift without positive stop locks or a safety leg; on or about 02/25/08. e) Worksite, Southeast Corner, Bay #6, Semi Hydraulic, Globe Lift - Employees operating Dyno equipment in the automobile lift bay without the hydraulic cylinder being locked out; on or about 02/25/08. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARDS: 1) Follow ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000 (Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance.) Section 4.4.4, The lift owner or employer shall take all the appropriate steps to follow the recommended inspection procedures of the lift manufacturer, but in no event shall the lift operator fail to inspect or take notice of the following features on a daily basis: (4) Proper operation of the lift controls, restraints and locking devices and (9) unusual noises, sudden movements, erratic operation Section 4.5 Operator Reporting:If any conditions listed in 4.4.4 (4) through (10) are observed, then the lift shall not be used until the cause of the problem has ben determined and the appropriate repairs have been made by qualified automotive lift personnel. In order to ensure that the lift is not used until the repairs have been effected, the lift shall be locked out or tagged out in accordance with ANSI Z244.1-1993. Note: In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
