Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized
At the Pepsi Cola Puerto Rico Manufacturing LLC HNC Pepsi America's
warehouse in
Toa Baja, it was observed that; several vertical columns of the storage
racks were bent
due to the impacts with mechanical vehicle in movement. It was document
that this
condition persisted for years and that the employer had obtained bids to
repair them but
had not taken action to correct this condition. There were dozens of label
packages stored
that weighed approx. between 20 to 50 lbs each. The label packages were
stored at
heights that varied from 6 inches to 15 feet of heights, measures from the
floor level.
Hazard: to be impacted by materials that fall from a collapsing rack or
material that falls
from an uneven or bent rack due to impacts with forklifts.
Among others methods, one acceptable and possible to correct this hazard
is to carry out
the preventive maintenance according to ANSI MH 6.2-1984 (R1996), sec.  3,
11 and
to protect them of subsequent impacts according to the section 3, 5.
En el almacen de Pepsi Cola Puerto Rico Manufacturing LLC HNC Pepsi
Americas en
Toa Baja, se observo que; varias columnas verticales de las gondolas
estaban dobladas
debido a los impactos con montacargas. Se documento que llevaban anos en
esta
condicion y que el patrono habia cotizado para repararlas pero no habia
tomado accion
para corregirlo. En las gondolas se almacenaban docenas de paquetes de
etiquetas que
pesaban aprox. entre 20 a 50 lbs cada uno. Los paquetes de etiquetas
estaban colocados
a unas alturas que variaba desde 6 pulgadas hasta 15 pies de alto medidas
desde el nivel
del piso.
Riesgo; Ser impactado por materiales que caigan al desplomarse o al
desnivelarse las
gondolas debido a impactos con los montacargas.
Entre otros metodos, uno aceptable y posible para corregir este riesgo es
realizar
el
mantenimiento preventivo de acuerdo con ANSI MH 6.2-1984 (R1996), sec.
3.11 y
protegerlos de impactos subsecuentes segun la seccion 3.5.ion
