General-duty citation text
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical hazards: a) Temporary Labor Camp - Employer failed to provide a temporary migrant labor camp which was free from electrical hazards in that the trailer located off of Hwy 125 in Oak City did not have approved electrical service. Electricity was being supplied to this trailer by way of an extension cord running along the ground and through the window from an adjacent house. Inside the trailer a series of extension cords were run end-to-end to supply electricity to the sleeping and living room areas. These cords were running through doors and windows, creating pinch points. The cord from the house to the trailer was running along the ground in a wet location and was in no way protected from vehicular and foot traffic. Abatement Notice: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to eliminate the use of all temporary wiring and provide electrical service which meets National Electric code and all state and local codes.
