Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to crushing hazards:
a) 100 Buckley Blvd., Bear, DE - Employees used hydraulic lifts to elevate
cars/trucks
in the shop. The safety locking devices used to hold the lifts in place
were damaged and
would not engage, exposing the employees to injuries from being struck by
falling loads.
This violation was observed on or about June 21, 2011
Among other methods, there are several feasible and acceptable abatement
methods to
correct these hazards. One is to provide mechanical stands, or devices to
hold the lift in
the fully extend position. Another feasible and acceptable abatement is to
maintain the
lifts at this facility to the manufacturer specification.
