Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The
employer did not
furnish employees a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees
were exposed to struck by hazards.
a) 195 New Road, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852. Employees working in a tree
removal operation were exposed to struck by hazards in that a visual hazard
assessment was not performed by a qualified person prior to work starting.
ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD,
AMONG OTHER MEANS, WOULD BE FOR THE COMPANY TO RECOGNIZE
THE HAZARDS OF TREE REMOVAL OPERATIONS AND IMPLEMENT AND
ENFORCE PROCEDURES FOR THIS TYPE OF WORK IN ACCORDANCE TO THE
REQUIREMENTS OUTLINED IN THE AMERICAN NATIONAL INSTITUTE'S
STANDARD FOR PRUNING, REPAIRING AND MAINTAINING TREES AND
CUTTING BRUSH. (ANSI Z133.1-2000, ABORICULTURAL OPERATIONS SAFETY)
