Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to THE HAZARD OF BEING STRUCK-BY: a)Lowes retail store, on or about 03/05/2009: The following fire exit doorways were locked with a 15-second delay egress locking mechanism and no sign was posted reading "PUSH UNTIL ALARM SOUNDS DOOR CAN BE OPENED IN 15 SECONDS" 1)Appliance/Flooring back exit 2)Lumber area back exit 3)Lumber area side exit 4)Front end area exit 5)Garden center front exit 6)Garden center rear exit 7)Receiving area truck driver exit 8)Receiving area double exit Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to: Install signs that read: ""PUSH UNTIL ALARM SOUNDS DOOR CAN BE OPENED IN 15 SECONDS" in accordance with The Life Safety Code, section 7.2.1.6.1, Delayed-Egress Locks. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
