Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall and struck by hazards due to truss collapse: Employees were exposed to fall and struck-by hazards on June 15, 2011 when several wood trusses collapsed under the load imposed by stacked plywood being set on unbraced trushes, resulting in an employee falling approximately 13.9 feet. Among others, methods to correct the hazards include, but are not limited to: a)Installation of temporary lateral and diagonal bracing at the top and bottom of installed trusses as outlined in the Building Component Safety Information (BCSI) Guide For Handling, Installing, Restraining and Bracing of Trusses, published and jointly produced by the Structural Building Components Association, Wood Truss Council of America and the Truss Plate Institute. b)Ensuring that the maximum loading of trusses under construction was not exceeded, in as outlined in the Building Component Safety Information (BCSI) Guide For Handling, Installing, Restraining and Bracing of Trusses, published and jointly produced by the Structural Building Components Association, Wood Truss Council of America and the Truss Plate Institute.
