Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to severe burn injuries from a dust explosion
created by dust
collectors located inside a building and by not directing any potential
deflagration venting to
an outside location:
a) Casting Line Area: There were dust collection systems (air material
separators)
located on Casting Lines which were located inside of the building, as
observed on or
about November 8, 2010.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO RELOCATE THE DUST COLLECTION
SYSTEMS TO A SAFE OUTSIDE LOCATION PER NFPA 654.
