Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to fire and explosion hazards due to the uncontrolled use and
disposal of employee
smoking material in the presence of magnesium metal shavings and dust:
a) Jobsite: Facility, 2100 Bridgewater Road - On or about 6/24/2011, an
employee who was
cutting magnesium plate with a bandsaw was severely burned when both the
saw chip collection
bin and an uncovered 55 gallon storage drum of magnesium shavings burned
and exploded
violently.  Since the employer did not control the use or disposal of
employee smoking material,
a fire started when the smoking material fell into the readily ignitable
magnesium shavings.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to
comply
