Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment
which are free from
recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to his
employees in that employees were exposed to struck by and crushing hazards.
On or about November 15, 2010 and at times prior thereto, employees were
exposed to
being struck by falling logs while working below the logs being hoisted
into the step
machine.
Abatement Note:
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the
hazard would be to
eliminate working on or about the step machine while the overhead hazards
exist while the
logs are being loaded.
Abatement Note:  Abatement certification and documentation is required for
this item.
