Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to a fire hazard:
a)Warehouse, Van Ness Facility, Clifton, NJ:  Employees, attempting to
light a
Hastings duct furnace during servicing, did not properly check for faulty
draft
and negative room pressure; thereby, exposing them to flammable conditions
and third degree burns, on or about 10/17/2011.
ABATEMENT NOTE:  Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to
correct this hazard is to not light duct furnace in a room with negative
air pressure or
negative downdraft conditions as described in the Hastings Gas-Fired Duct
Furnaces
Installation and Service Bulletin No. GH-2-D.  Adequate "make-up" air, or
the use of a
power venter, is to be used to correct any defective venting or negative
air pressure.
