29 CFR 1926.52(b): Employee(s) were subjected to sound levels exceeding those listed in table D-2 of subpart D of 29 CFR part 1926 and feasible administrative or engineering controls were not utilized to reduce sound levels: a) Tunnel GCT 1/2 East Drill operator(s) were exposed to continuous noise at 404.6% of the permissible daily dose (8 hour time weighted average sound level of 90 dBA) which is 4.04 times the permissible exposure limit (PEL). The equivalent sound level of the measured dose was 101.1 dBA. Sampling was performed for 464 minutes with the remaining 16 minutes considered to represent zero for the exposure calculation. Hearing protection devices provided did not effectively reduce employee noise exposure to below 90 dBA. Condition noted on 03/01/12. NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR THIS ITEM, FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1,000 AS PER CFR 1903.19.
