29 CFR 1910.138(a): General requirements. Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes.      a. On or about July 19, 2012, in the plating area, the employees arms were exposed to chromic acid and other acid. The employees were not provided appropriate chemical resistant gloves. Employees were thereby exposed to the hazards asociated with chemical contact with acids.

On or about July 19, 2012, in the plating area, employees required to hand dip parts in the chrome plating tanks were not provided an examination of the exposed body parts including nostrils.

You must ensure that cyanide tanks have a dike or other safeguard to prevent cyanide from mixing with an acid if a dip tank fails.    a. On or about July 19, 2012, in the plating area, a tank containing a cyanide solution did not have a dike or double wall to prevent release of the solution if the tank failed.

29 CFR 1910.141(g)(2):     Eating and drinking areas. No employee shall be allowed to consume food or beverages in a toilet room nor in any area exposed to a toxic material.    a. On or about August 8, 2012, in the employee lunch area, the top of the lunch table had a surface contamination of 1.4 micrograms of cadmium, a toxic material.   Employees were thereby exposed to the hazards associated with cadmium ingestion.
