Subcontractor employees were working within an 8 foot excavation without a cave-in protective The subcontractor employees were setting two concrete inlets within the excavation. This condition exposed employees to crushing hazards associated with working within an excavation 8 feet deep without a protective system.    Abatement Note: OSHA defines a "competent" person as one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.

This condition exposed the subcontractor employees to a crushing hazard by excavation wall cave-in.
