29 CFR 1910.107(g)(3): Residue disposal. Residue scrapings and debris contaminated with residue shall be immediately removed from the premises and properly disposed of. Approved metal waste cans shall be provided wherever rags or waste are impregnated with finishing material and all such rags or waste deposited therein immediately after use. The contents of waste cans shall be properly disposed of at least once daily or at the end of each shift.  Employees working in the paint shop were exposed to fire and explosion hazards in that the waste rags used for flammable paints and thinners were not immediately disposed of in approved metal waste cans.

29 CFR 1910.134(c)(1): In any workplace where respirators are necessary to protect the health of the employee or whenever respirators are required by the employer, the employer shall establish and implement a written respiratory protection program with worksite-specific procedures. The program shall be updated as necessary to reflect those changes in workplace conditions that affect respirator use. The employer shall include in the program the following provisions of this section, as applicable:   Employees were exposed to inhalation hazards of paints and paint related products in that a written respiratory protection program had not been developed and implemented.  Employees were required to wear respirators for job tasks such as painting, sanding and grinding.

29 CFR 1910.134(f): Fit testing. This paragraph requires that, before an employee may be required to use any respirator with a negative or positive pressure tight-fitting facepiece, the employee must be fit tested with the same make, model, style, and size of respirator that will be used. This paragraph specifies the kinds of fit tests allowed, the procedures for conducting them, and how the results of the fit tests must be used.    Employees were exposed to inhalation hazards from paints and paint related products in that they were not fit tested before using the 3-M tight fitting respirators.  Employees were required to wear respirators for job tasks such as painting, sanding and grinding.

29 CFR 1910.107(g)(7): "No Smoking" signs. "No smoking" signs in large letters on contrasting color background shall be conspicuously posted at all spraying areas and paint storage rooms.  Signs were not posted at the spray painting areas and paint storage rooms to indicate "No smoking".
