29 CFR 1915.507(b)(1): The portable fire extinguishers and hose systems were not selected, installed, inspected, maintained, and tested by the employer according to NFPA 10-2002 Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers.   a) On or about 09/15/2014, at the maintenance shop at Cherokee Marine Terminal located at 520 Cowan Street, in Nashville, TN, the employer exposed employees to fire hazards by not having portable fire extinguishers accessible and the monthly fire extinguisher checks not being conducted and documented to ensure the proper function of the extinguisher.  Fire extinguishers were located on either side of the  main shop door and their access was blocked by equipment in the shop.   In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).

Without proper information on hazardous materials, employees could mis-handle materials and expose themselves to allergic reactions, and various irritations both internal and external.
