29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2): A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress was not located in trench excavations that were 4 feet (1.22m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62m) of lateral travel for employees:  (a) Two employees of Alta Construction, Inc. were not provided a safe means of egress while working in an excavation located along Myrtle Avenue between 11th Street and 12th Street in Boise, ID measuring approximately 80' long by approximately 7.5' wide and approximately 6.7' - 7.7' deep on or about May 3, 2017, and at times prior thereto, exposing them to cave-in hazards.   NOTE: Abatement certification AND supporting documentation are required for this item.

29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation are not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652 (b) or (c) of this section.  a) The employer does not protect each employee in its trenches by properly sloping or using appropriate protective systems. This violation was most recently observed along Myrtle Avenue between 11th Street and 12th Street in Boise, where two employees of Alta Construction, Inc. were working in an excavation approximately 7.6' wide by approximately 80' long and approximately 6.7' - 7.7' deep.  Employees were working in the east portion of the excavation, which was also the deepest portion, and approximately 6' away from a busy road leading into downtown.   NOTE: Abatement certification AND supporting documentation are required for this item.
