29 CFR 1926.453(b)(2)(v): A body belt shall be worn and a lanyard attached to the boom or basket when working from an aerial lift. Note to paragraph (b)(2)(v): As of January 1, 1998, subpart M of this part (1926.502(d)) provides that body belts are not acceptable as part of a personal fall arrest system. The use of a body belt in a tethering system or in a restraint system is acceptable and is regulated under 1926.502(e).  On October 10, 2017, at 70 Hospitality Drive, Xenia, Wal-Mart Supercenter Store, an employee was exposed to a 14 ft. fall hazard while using a JLG aerial lift to paint a metal roof without using any fall protection equipment.

29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems.  On October 10, 2017, at 70 Hospitality Drive, Xenia, a Wal-Mart Supercenter Store, an employee was exposed to a 14 ft. fall hazard while standing on a metal roof and painting the roof without utilizing any fall protection.
