Eye protection was not utilized during this task. The employer did not assess workplace operations to identify personal protective equipment requirements, such as the use of eye protection. Employees were exposed to eye irritants.

An eyewash unit was not available for flushing both eyes simultaneously in the event of chemical exposure, such as a bleach splash. Employees were exposed to eye irritants.

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one fourth inch:  Facilities/Maintenance Area: Employees use the Ryobi bench grinder to sharpen and/or shape products. At the time of the inspection, the left tongue guard measured 1/2 inches from the abrasive wheel. Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards.

29 CFR 1910.305(b)(2)(i): Each outlet box in completed installations did not have a cover, faceplate, or fixture canopy:  Maintenance/Facilities Area: Employees use the Kenmore mini refrigerator or the JNC 950 jumper cables that were on the workbench. The jumper cables and refrigerator were plugged into an outlet that was missing a cover plate. Employees were exposed to electrical shock hazards of 120 volts.
