29 CFR 1910.334(a)(2)(i): Portable cord and plug connected equipment and flexible cord sets (extension cords) were not visually inspected before use on any shift for external defects (such as loose parts, deformed and missing pins, or damage to outer jacket or insulation) and for evidence of possible internal damage (such as pinched or crushed outer jacket). Garage and wood shop; on or about 22 May 2019 and times prior thereto; the employer did not ensure that portable cord and plug equipment was inspected prior to use. Three instances were noted: a. Garage bay; a 50-foot heavy duty blue extension cord was missing the ground pin. b. Wood shop; the power cord to the Jet Tilting Arbor Saw, model JTAS-10-1, serial number 6083284 had damage to the outer protective jacket next to the cord plug. c. Wood shop; a black 25-foot heavy duty extension cord used to supply power to the arbor saw had damage to the outer protective jacket next to the cord plug. This condition exposed employees to electrical shock and electrical burn hazards.
