The pulley is located approximately one foot from the operator's feet. This condition exposed employees to hazards of contacting rotating pulleys and belts.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding were not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) On or about November 10, 2021, and at times prior, the employer did not ensure that the band saw blade in the cabinet of the vertical bandsaw was guarded. The blade is located approximately one foot from the operator's feet. This condition exposed employees to hazards of contacting rotating ingoing nip points and the exposed blade.

29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: a) On or about November 10, 2021, and at times prior, the employer did not furnish flushing facilities in the immediate area of corrosive materials for emergency use. The eyewash was located in the bathroom, past a potentially locked door and more than a 10 second walk from the battery operated forklift charging station. Abatement Note: American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z358.1-1998, Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment, which states, at section 7.4.4, that eyewash facilities are to be located to require no more than 10 seconds to reach but that where a strong acid or caustic is used, the unit should be immediately adjacent to the hazard.
